🚍RV Pre-Trip Checklist for a Long Trip

Hi friends,

We officially hit the road on December 2 and are now underway on our three-month winter trip to Florida. Before we left, we spent time working through a pre-trip routine that’s a little different than what we were used to when we traveled with our HDT and fifth wheel.

Moving to a Super C motorhome meant rethinking parts of our checklist. Some things carried over, but others — especially systems, controls, and day-to-day setup — are unique to this rig. Getting ready for an extended RV journey still takes more than packing clothes and groceries, but it also means understanding how this coach works so we can avoid surprises on the road.

In our "Ready to Roll" video, we walk through the main things we checked on the RV before we left, including:

  • The Aqua-Hot system and how electric heat, the diesel burner, and hot water all work together

  • Using the Firefly control system to confirm everything was operating correctly

  • Generator checks, fluids, batteries, and tire pressure

  • Slide maintenance and other small but important prep items

  • A few lessons learned along the way (because that’s usually how it goes 😄)

We also talk about how we handle changing temperatures, like cool nights and warm days, without constantly adjusting settings.

Our Pre-Trip Checklist

Over time, we’ve built a pre-trip checklist that works well for us, especially before longer trips like this one. It helps us slow down, think through the basics, and catch small issues before they turn into roadside problems.

We’ve put that checklist into a printable PDF you can download and use as a starting point for your own routine:

👉 Download the Pre-Trip Checklist here:

Feel free to print it, save it on your phone, or tweak it to fit your rig and travel style.

Before we roll, we always do a final inside walk-through. Our simple reminder is:

Load it. Latch it. Lock it.

If something can move, open, rattle, or fall — we want to catch it before we’re miles down the road.

If you’d like to see how we handled our pre-trip prep, you can watch the full video here:

Thanks for traveling with us and following along on our winter journey. Whether you’re heading out for a weekend getaway or a months-long adventure, we hope this helps you feel a little more confident before you turn the key.

Safe travels,

Dave & Karen

We roll, camp, and yeah… we play.
